About-us
Welcome to ESIC Hospital at Bibvewadi, Pune—a premier healthcare institution dedicated to delivering comprehensive secondary level medical services to our community. Our hospital has undergone significant transformations and upgrades and is committed to providing high-quality care and enhancing patient outcomes through continuous improvement and innovation.
Our History and Transition:
Foundation and Handover: Originally operating as an ESIS Hospital, our facility transitioned to ESIC management on May 12, 2017. Located on a 10-acre site, the hospital was initially designed to accommodate 60 beds by ESIS standards. However, upon integration into the ESIC system, the facility required substantial renovation to align with updated norms and expectations.
Renovation and Initial Operations: Recognizing the need for upgrades, renovation work commenced under UPRNN. Despite ongoing renovations, we began partial operations with Outpatient Department (OPD) services on November 14, 2017, ensuring that essential OPD based medical care was accessible to the community from the outset.
Pandemic Response and Adaptation:
COVID-19 Pandemic: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital was designated as a COVID Care Centre on July 31, 2020. By September 25, 2020, it was re-designated as a 50-bed Dedicated COVID Hospital. During this period, we rapidly expanded our emergency services, including the introduction of ambulance facilities and an expanded observation ward to accommodate the surge in COVID-19 cases.
Second Wave and Continued COVID Care: As the second wave of COVID-19 emerged, our hospital was converted into a 92-bed Dedicated COVID Hospital on April 14, 2021. This included ICU and ventilator services through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with the state covering the costs. We also introduced an Ultrasonography facility on April 23, 2021, to support our COVID-19 services.
Resuming Non-COVID Services:
Post-Pandemic Operations: As the severity of the pandemic decreased, we transitioned back to providing non-COVID services. From December 1, 2020, we resumed 50-bed IPD services for non-COVID patients, expanding to a full 92-bed capacity by February 16, 2021. Emergency and Major OT Complexes became operational in early 2021, and on July 26, 2021, the hospital was fully re-designated as a non-COVID facility. From 15.08.2021 the services were restored to normalcy
Quality and Expansion: Our commitment to excellence was recognized when we achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification on September 6, 2021. We also introduced an Ophthalmology Operation Theatre on October 8, 2021, and installed a PSA oxygen plant in January 2022 to address oxygen supply needs. The following Quality certificates were acquired by the Hospital:
NABH (Entry Level): Acquired on 20.08.2024. Valid till 19.08.2026.
