DEPARTMENT OF LABORATORY SERVICES

The department of Laboratory Services has gradually grown into a multi-disciplinary department with excellence in lab services in specialities such as Pathology, Haematology, Biochemistry, Serology (Microbiology) under common platform. With time, many newer tests were included under the scope. Procurement of modern equipment helped reducing the Turnaround Time. The department also provides 24x7 emergency lab services.

There has been a constant growth in the workload of the department with a consistent improvement in terms of quality, efficiency, efficacy and effectiveness as well as the stakeholder experience. The department has a robust system of providing accurate reports with the reviewing specialist working for all subspecialties. As an extension of the patient care service, the department also conducts the diagnostic camps, lifestyle disorders screening tests camps, blood donation camps. 

The core strength of the department has been the presence of excellent teamwork, specialists and technical staff.

1. Pathologist In-Charge /HOD Lab Services:

Dr. Sushma Gulhane, MBBS, MD (Pathology), DNB (Pathology), Specialist Gr-I Pathology

With 20+ years of experience in pathology in clinical work as well as academics and serving ESIC since 14 years as Specialist Pathology, she has 18 research publications and case reports to her credit in various national and international journals. She has been on editorial board of pathology journals as reviewer and reviewed many articles. Her areas of special interest and expertise are Haematology, Blood banking and surgical pathology. She has also received training in quality management service in laboratory with respect to ISO and NABL standards. 

2. Pathologist:

 

Dr. Vandana Sharma, MBBS, MD (Pathology), Specialist Gr-II (Sr. Scale) Pathology

She has 16 years of experience in pathology in clinical work and academics, serving ESIC since 8 years as a Specialist in Pathology. She has 6 research publications and case reports to her credit in various national and international journals. Her areas of specialization and expertise are Cytology and Haematology. 

 

3. Other Resources

The department has 10 other staff members that includes Senior/ Junior resident, laboratory technicians, laboratory assistants and Nursing orderly. On an average, the department of Laboratory Services conducts about 900-1000 tests on a daily basis with utmost care on pre-analytical and analytical procedures and with constant monitoring of quality through internal and external quality control programs. 

 

 

Laboratory Services (Patient care)

Department of laboratory services is equipped with modern automated facilities including Haematology Analyser, Coagulometer, ESR Analyser, Semiautomated Urine analyser, clinical Biochemistry analyser, Immunoassay system and Binocular Microscopes. A comprehensive panel of rapid diagnostic kits for serology are also available in Serology tests. Gynaecology Cytology services are also available.

The External Quality Assurance Scheme (EQAS) is being followed in all three major divisions of the department with Haematology laboratory is enrolled with AIIMS-ISHTM, New Delhi, Biochemistry and immunoassays with CMC, Vellore. EQAS is followed for Serology and Clinical Pathology with RML Lucknow.

The department of Laboratory services will be soon applying for Entry Level NABL Accreditation. Bi-directional Integration of Dhanwantri Module with the Lab equipments is under process and soon shall be a reality for fast test result entry. The hospital is also planning to start home sample collection from the eligible beneficiaries in near future.

1. The Department of laboratory services has following broad sections / specialities.

• Haematology
• Clinical Pathology
• Serology
• Biochemistry
• Cytopathology

 

2. Following laboratory tests are being provided:

 

 

Timings of Sample collection and Turn Around Time

• Sample collection is carried out from 8 am to 12 pm daily on weekdays & 8:00 am to 10:00 am on Saturdays. OPD reports are made available on next day whereas IPD reports are dispatched within 6 hours. 
• Emergency lab services are available 24x7 hours and reports are dispatched in less than 2 hours. 
• Routine laboratory services are closed on Sunday and Public Holiday .

Laboratory  Services:  

(i) OPD Services

• Blood Collection Centre Location: Room No. 23, Ground floor, ESIC Hospital, Bibvewadi
• Collection of blood  and other samples from outpatients having valid ESIC card, UHID & OPD card test prescription.  
• Spot investigations for outpatients:   BT, CT test

(ii) Emergency & IPD services (24x7)

• Location: Room No. 25, Ground floor, ESIC Hospital, Bibvewadi
• Receiving of IPD and emergency samples. Performing tests on samples as per requisition.
• Reports are issued on the same day for IPD and in less than 2 hours for emergency tests.

(iii) Report Dispatch

The reports of online investigations done in the Department are available on Dhanwantri portal, AAA+ App and offline reports are available in Room no.23, Ground floor.
